“Hearts’ Lonely Hunters”

From TOROSIETE Museum Artist Beatrix Ost, comes “Hearts’ Lonely Hunters” – a feature film co produced and co written by Beatrix Ost and her son Daniel Kuttner – directed by Daniel Kuttner.

The TOROSIETE Museum Presents a film written and produced by Beatrix Ost, “Hearts’ Lonely Hunters”. Originally released in 1995, this film premiered at film festivals worldwide. Streaming here for the first time ever, Beatrix’s story takes us on a journey through the experiences of a writer from Germany who visits Charlottesville, Virginia to write about Thomas Jefferson. However upon arrival he takes an entirely different journey.

Klaus, a German writer with a thirst for experience and a longing for personal expression arrives in Charlottesville, Virginia.  He is sent to the town of Thomas Jefferson on a journalistic assignment to write about the great man and his achievements.  However, he quickly becomes disillusioned with his subject yearning for a human connection.  A direct confrontation with the racial tensions of a melting pot society enables him to abandon the past and open himself to observing the present.  Lured by his own thirst and longing, his position as a stranger allows him to discover peoples' deepest secrets.  During his stay, he befriends a diverse group of characters searching to fulfill their true dreams and desires.  Among them are:  Mooney Sunshine, a dualistic persona with a haunting childhood secret; Dolly, who is looking for "true love", but always in the wrong places; and Luna, a Zen archer who never misses with her arrow, only in life; to name a few.  To some, Klaus becomes a friend, to others, he is their guiding figure.  But all of them inspire him in his own journey towards "a story dear to his heart."

"Hearts' Lonely Hunters" is about the pursuit of dreams, great and small, good and bad, right and wrong.  Dreams are as individual as the people who have them, but they possess us all.  Whether you dream of love, understanding, or power.  We dream all our lives.  Each character in the film represents the pursuit towards an individual dream.  We wish and hope for our dreams to come true, and sometimes realize that the power to fulfill our dreams lies right within us.  Like life itself, the film does not come to conclusions.  It leads us to questions, and questions lead to answers.  - Daniel Kuttner

The stranger in this film awakens us from our sleep.  He allows us to throw off our disguises and embrace what is true in our hearts.  I am thinking of Michelangelo's painting where two fingers are touching and the power of their simple gesture reminds us that what we need most in this fast and complicated world is compassion for others and the courage to change ourselves.  Life itself is often beyond imagining and so the film sometimes ventures into the surreal, where dreams are living and where the magical awakening of our senses allows us to see the riches of our souls.  - Beatrix Ost

"HEARTS' LONELY HUNTERS" is Daniel Kuttner's first feature film as a director.  He and his mother, Beatrix Ost begain their collaboration with Daniel returned from Los Angeles after a break up with his girlfriend.  Beatrix wanted to make a short film about her sculptures and Daniel had been trying to write a screenplay which he felt proud enough to represent himself with and was possible to do with the means available to him.  Their view of Charlottesville as an artistic and intellectual small town with eccentric and quirky characters were written with the actors already in mind after having seen them in local theatre productions.  Others were friends from New York and Germany who came to join the effort.  Locations were conceptualized according to places that were accessible through friends.  As the crew grew, neighbors helped by providing their guest houses.  Beatrix's farm, Estouteville, burst at the seams with people sleeping in every nook and cranny.  Finally, shooting began for the scheduled five weeks.  An amazing mix of professional and non-professional people working together from the heart with love and appreciation for the creative process were the result of an incredibly smooth and wonderful production.  Daniel went back to Los Angeles for five months of post-production.  The music, he entrusted to a twenty-one year old student from England who had nevered composed for a film before.  "Hearts' Lonely Hunters" is the collaborative effort of a group of people who are not afraid to pursue their dreams.

Our Q&A with Beatrix Ost will be posted soon!  Thank you to everyone that attended!

The TOROSIETE Museum will be presenting a series of exhibitions of the sculptural art featured in the film created by Beatrix Ost beginning in April, 2021.

Noel Suarez

Noel is the living embodiment of passion and talent required by all great artists, which is reflected in his ever-evolving work. He is recognized as one of a small number of artists whom Miami's ascendancy to the world cultural stage is reflected in the lifetime of his career. His style is an amalgam of structure and dreams, reality and mythology, the sensual and the divine.

Collectively, the tapestry of his work creates an artistic uniqueness that is characteristic of all great artists.  Cuban-born Noel was raised in the environment of a theatrical family and started his ballet training at the Escuela Provincial de Ballet de la Habana at age 5. He also study drawing and painting at Havana's Academy of San Alejandro. Noel’s professional dancing career includes the renowned Alberto Alonso's in Cuba with whom he toured throughout Europe and Canada. Prior to the Alonso’s’ he danced with Havana’s Opera Ballet. Noel arrived in the U.S. in 1981 after an eight-month engagement as Principal Dancer and Teacher with Costa Rica’s Compa ia Nacional de Danza. In the US he danced with Ballet Concerto, Dance Miami, Boston Ballet II and New England Dinosaur Dance Company. While dancing he was also given the opportunity to design sets and costumes for the companies he danced with.

Due to a knee injury Noel retired from dancing in 1986 and pursued a career as an Artist. Some of his commission for private and corporate collections include; murals for the Ritz Plaza Hotel in Miami Beach, Grove Isle Hotel in Coconut Grove, for which he also created the fountain at its entrance. He also created the murals for San Diego's Paradise Point Hotel. Argentinian author Alicia Borinsky selected two of Noel’s paintings for her book jackets. He was also commissioned to create a portrait of the late Eartha Kitt, who became a collector and mentor. Noel served on the City of Miami Beach Fine Arts Board for five years. In his theatrical works include DIFFA's 1993 production of "Acts of Hope” as Artistic Director while also creating the event’s commemorative poster. DIFFA invited Noel again to stage DIFFA's Production Collection Rouge for its Miami premier. University of Miami commissioned Noel to create sets, costumes and lighting design for the World Premier of the National Ballet of Cuba Prima Ballerina Rosario Suarez, for her ballet "Cecilia Valdez." Absolut Vodka commissioned Noel to create the commemorative poster for the 1989 Absolut Models for Boston to benefit the Homeless. Later on, Absolut again chose Noel to create one of the umbrellas for the "DIFFA's Pink Umbrellas Project" and then again for the DIFFA Dallas Jacket Collection. In his personal fight against AIDS, Noel created a stable of paintings to benefit this very personal cause. "We Shall Overcome" to benefit the Boston AIDS Action Committee for their ARTcetera 88 auction, New York's AIDS Relief Fund for New York's "Beauty & Beyond‘98" to benefit Beauty Cares. For South Florida's largest AIDS organization Care Resource, Noel was the featured Artist for its Miami White Party creating the iconic “Sueno Blanco” and again “Universal Love” for Care Resource’s 20th anniversary. Noel was also selected to create the painting for their Miami's AIDS Walk 2000 Poster. He was also chosen to create the Commemorative painting for First Night Miami Beach 2000 Millennium Celebration. As a result of all his paintings created to benefit AIDS, he was asked to create the panel representing Miami on the National AIDS Quilt Display. His works has generated an amazing amount of funds for AIDS Organizations Nationwide. The City of Miami Beach selected Noel to design five Flamingos for the Art in Public Places Flamingo Project. He also collaborated with fellow artist Romero Britto creating five large very unique paintings, all in private collections. Noel has received national recognition with profiles and features in numerous magazines, newspapers, television and films.

The European Library of Artists in Barcelona selected him for their 2007-2008-2009 editions of “100 Contemporary Artists of the World”, and also invited him to participate in the prestigious International Exhibit at the Carrousel of The Louvre Museum. He is also featured in the first edition of the book “100 Artists of the Male Image” published by Schiffer Publishing,
as well as "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today-Volume 4" published by ES Publishing. Another great collaboration created with Mr. Uberto Gucci/Gucci family (“La Colaborazione”) premiered first in Florence and then in Miami Beach during Art Basel. CNN Español commissioned Noel to create the painting for their official invite for their Miami’s Premiere Gala.

Oceania Cruises invited Noel to join their Artist in Residence Program on 2013 where he remains today while exhibiting and participating in events and Art Fairs in the US & the World. As a constant personal quest, Noel’s work is always evolving, from techniques and mediums to subject matter, capturing the attention of youthful art enthusiasts and educated collectors. Noel is represented exclusively by TOROSIETE Museum.

Artist Statement

“If your mind is awakened, you know the struggle we wage against an insidious form of helplessness. You pass a majestic tree and you want to bow before the transcendent will which embodies itself in his sophisticated DNA, already tested for its compatibility with the crickets’ song in his leaves, the squirrel hiding in the armpits of his branches, the fruit he feeds the friendly bear passing by.

As a human, you want to bow and assure every species, including our own, that it will be able to continue in its accustomed round. Our children, too. Yes, they should be in school and not fretting about the future.

Let me bow also to that river beneath the bridge, to its fish, its plant life. Let me tread carefully into the grasshopper’s realm, the snake’s kingdom, the bees’ airspace. Let me sing the song of seasons, the glory of the rain, the backbone of the frost. Whatever threatens these things threatens the rose of love.

But our science threatens them, our science which has made us so rich. We are guilty of desecrating them all at the height of our intellectual triumph.

Where are the roses? Our triumphant mind is threatened at its core. We never envisioned the vulnerability we are living today. The idea that it could be too late does not compute, because it forces us out past the ragged edge of silence.

My love is threatened. How could this happen? Indifference slunk in undetected beneath the umbrella of the information age. I wear the frock of helplessness. Don’t judge my elegance alone. Don’t judge the vulnerability of a flower by its beauty. It is there, and deeply so. It is a reminder, a cloak to cover the struggle, the sadness.

My love is threatened.”
